Chorus & Performing Arts
“I founded and directed a student chorus program designed to celebrate creativity, collaboration, and cultural identity. Through group singing, vocal exploration, and performance-based learning, students built confidence, practiced teamwork, and used music as a tool for storytelling. Our chorus performances not only highlighted student talent, but also created space for emotional expression and community connection — bridging cultures and voices across the school.”
Culturally Responsive Practice
In the classroom, a Cozy Corner has created a sensory environment that accommodates Children in a developmentally appropriate manner. It allows students to develop SEL skills, finding balance in self-regulation, and ultimately allows them to learn more effectively. I believe that a Child's behavior is impacted by the organization of the classroom space, as the room conveys a specific message to the child. The child's behavior is communication. An area that is designed for 'alone' or 'reflection' time is needed the address the various social emotional needs of our students.
Furthermore, the cozy corner addressed how students understand and manage feelings. Students are understanding physical cues, naming feelings, having a better insight into what triggers emotions, and expressing emotions using "I feel.." statements. I noticed an increase in the ability to relate to others and deal with life challenges. Addressing the increasingly diverse student population of the Classroom is essential to close the achievement gap.
